About Beaujolais

Located in Eastern France, Beaujolais is most commonly known for the Gamay grape. While 1-2% of the region grows chardonnay, their Gamay grape has been driving production in the area.

There are a few Beaujolais wines to look for: Standard Beaujolais (including Beaujolais Superieur), Beaujolais Villages and Beaujolais Nouveau.

The premium wines from this area are grown from the Beaujolais Cru’s - which are the 10 vineyard areas recognized for their excellence. These vineyard areas each have their own appellation title: Brouilly, Chenas, Chiroubles, Cote de Brouilly, Fleurie, Julienas, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Regnie and Saint-Amour.

For further information about this region, I found this video insightful. Enjoy!
